Deconstructing Dance

The past and the present, the traditional and the contemporary, are brought together and deconstructed in a double bill dance performance by two accomplished dancers/choreographers: Pichet Klunchun from Thailand, and Padmini Chettur from India. Pichet pays tribute to the traditional Khon mask dance through his contemporary performance in “I am a Demon”, while Padmini deconstructs the bharatanatyam dance vocabulary in “Varnam - Edit”, both of which are a part of the Jejak Tabi Exchange performance showcase. Pichet, Padmini, and Jejak Tabi curator Lim How Ngean join us to talk about how contemporary dance can find news ways of creating a defined Asian identity within traditional artforms.
