Can You Detect Lung Cancer Early?

Lung cancer has a long and difficult history in our society. It bears the stigma of being associated with men who smoke, and is still thought to be the deadliest of all cancers. The latter is true when lung cancer is diagnosed at late stages, which is the case for 90% of patients in Malaysia. However, it is time to stop thinking of lung cancer as a self-inflicted disease of smokers, and recognise that it is increasing among non-smokers, including younger adult women. This raises the question of whether lung cancer can be detected early, even among non-smokers. Dr Anand Sachithanandan, Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon and Co-Founder, Lung Cancer Network Malaysia, and Vinod Narayanan, Country President, AstraZeneca Malaysia, join us to share updates on lung cancer screening, and why people shouldn’t be afraid of coming forward to get checked. Visit Lung Cancer Network Malaysia’s website to find out about public events and information about lung cancer.
