Cancer And The Environment

Cancer is among the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, with approximately 14 million new cases and 8.2 million cancer-related deaths in 2012 according to WHO. The number of new cases is expected to rise by about 70% over the next two decades. Through long-term studies, scientists have suggested a relationship between some cancers and the presence of certain environmental pollutants. This relationship does not rule out other causes but suggests that there are factors in the environment that may increase the risk for some cancers. Dr Siby and Matthias Gelber discuss the link between cancer and the environment.
