Kidney disease has become so commonplace in Malaysia that nobody bats an eyelid at the mention of the word ‘dialysis’. However, the Ministry of Health has warned that by the year 2040, there could be more than 100,000 Malaysians on dialysis if nothing is done to stop the rising cases of kidney failure in the country. What does it mean to be on lifelong dialysis and what can we do to prevent kidney disease from reaching this advanced stage? We find out more from Dr Syama Prasad K.C.A. Menon, Consultant Nephrologist from Subang Jaya Medical Centre.
