Gut-Joint Axis: The Connection Between The Gut Microbiome and Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune condition where the immune system attacks healthy cells in the body, causing inflammation and painful swelling of the joints. Research suggests that an imbalance in the gut microbiota may play the role of environmental triggers of arthritis. Together with consultant orthopaedic surgeon Dr Rajesh Singh, and professor in microbiology and molecular biology Prof Lee Learn Han, we traverse the gut-joint axis to better understand rheumatoid arthritis and its underlying inflammatory pathways.
