The use of music as medicine has existed for as long as the indigenous communities in our country have been creating music. However, formalized music therapy only started in Malaysia about two decades ago by way of Western-trained music therapists and is still in its infancy in terms of therapeutic usage. We discuss the use and benefits of medical music therapy with Dr Lori Gooding, Assistant Professor of Music Therapy, Florida State University, and Dr Indra Selvarajah, Medical Music Therapist, Universiti Putra Malaysia.
