As a society, we don’t like to talk about death. As a result, we dismiss palliative care as “only for the dying”. But with the right public health approach to palliative care, we can improve the quality of life among a significant proportion of the population who are living longer with chronic non-communicable diseases. Azrul Mohd Khalib, CEO of Galen Centre for Health & Social Policy, and Dr Ednin Hamzah, CEO of Hospis Malaysia, will review the palliative care services that currently exist in Malaysia, and look at policies to support population-wide end-of-life care.
