Feminist Fridays #41: The Weinstein Effect

The term “The Weinstein Effect" was coined following the fall of disgraced American producer Harvey Weinstein, who was outed as a sexual predator after numerous allegations of sexual abuse, sexual assault and intimidation were levelled against him, publicly. He was in turn fired from the company he co-founded. This has emboldened women and men to share their untold or suppressed stories of sexual misconduct in the workplace and across countless industries. At the crux of the matter though, many believe, is how those in positions of authority abuse - and are allowed to abuse - the power they wield. Joining us to discuss the relationship between power and sexual harassment and assault is Dr Alicia Izharuddin, a Senior Lecturer in Gender Studies at the University of Malaya.
