Law and institutional reform minister Dato’ Sri Azalina Othman recently proposed that an independent commission be set up to safeguard the rights and well-being of children. How might this commission function differently to the Office of the Child Commissioner parked under SUHAKAM, which is currently held by Prof Datuk Noor Aziah Mohd Awal? What difference would it make for the landscape of children’s rights and well-being in Malaysia? We find out from Srividhya Ganapathy, Co-chairperson of CRIB Foundation (Child Rights Innovation & Betterment).
