Getting Out of the Native Mindset

Bird Runningwater is the director of the Native American and Indigenous Program at Sundance Institute. Born and raised on the Mescalero Apache Reservation in New Mexico, Bird was in Malaysia recently to judge the Borneo Eco Film Festival. He speaks to us about the history of native filmmaking, how we don't see enough of indigenous people's stories in movies and on TV, as well as how he intends to use his role to change that.
