Labour Day Special: The Vulnerable Among Us

As we head into Labour Day next week, stories of exploitation and abuse still pervade discussions around the migrant workforce in Malaysia. Despite their sizable presence - six million, according to various estimates - there is still no comprehensive national policy on labour migration. Having presented a proposal to the relevant, Adrian Pereira of North-South Initiative explains whether the Ministry of Human Resources and Ministry of Immigration were receptive to such a policy. Nasrikah Paikin is an migrant worker from Indonesia who left home at the age of 18. She shares her personal experience going through the labour recruitment process, the discrimination she and her peers face as a migrant worker, as well as her decision to return to university, almost 20 years after graduating from high school.
