Feminist Fridays #20: Taking Stock of KL's Soup Kitchens

Getting her first taste of helping the less fortunate at the tender age of 5, Datuk Munirah Abdul Hamid, would later help out with the work of Pertubuhan Tindakan Wanita Islam (PERTIWI), which aimed to improve the livelihood of women, teenagers and children through education. Some seven years ago, she kick-started the PERTIWI Soup Kitchen and she joins us to share her stories of sustaining a soup kitchen for the homeless in Kuala Lumpur, while assessing the need for more collaboration between charitable individuals who want to feed the hungry. She also discusses why we need a long term solution to deal with the underlying issues causing the problems of unemployment and homelessness of urbanites in Kuala Lumpur.
