Landmark #12: Apex Court Rules Non-Muslim Can't Be Shariah Lawyer

On March 25th, the highest court in the land ruled, in a 3-2 split decision, that only Muslims can practice Shariah law, clarifying for the first time a law made in Parliament 23 years ago. The landmark judgment ended Victoria Jayaseele Martin’s seven-year legal battle to be a Shariah lawyer. Explaining the Federal Court's decision and its ramifications is Shariah lawyer Nizam Bashir.
