Poverty Eradication

Prof. Dr. Sulochana Nair, Board Member, Sejahtera Foundation | Christopher Choong, Economist, Socio-Development Cluster, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

05-Oct-15 15:00

Poverty Eradication

UN’s International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is commemorated every October 17th to recognize the effort and struggle of people living in poverty, giving them an opportunity to have their voices heard. This year’s theme is “Building a sustainable future: Coming together to end poverty and discrimination.” We speak to Prof. Dr. Sulochana Nair, who dedicated her career to poverty studies, and Christopher Choong, UNDP’s economist, about poverty in Malaysia, whether conventional metrics used to measure poverty are outdated, and get their thoughts on the flaws and strengths of Malaysia’s policies addressing income inequality.
