On the night of November 21st last year, a wave of public demonstrations and protests erupted in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, demanding for closer European integration. The sustained civil unrests culminated in the ousting of then-president, Viktor Yanukovych. Now that Russia has formally annexed the Crimean peninsula, what does this mean for Ukraine going forward? Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies Joergen Oerstroem Moeller helps us understand.
