Calling on Governments to Waive Patents on COVID-19 Vaccines

Last month, India and South Africa led several countries in calling for patents and other intellectual properties related to COVID-19 to be waived during the pandemic. While the movement has gained traction through recent talks, many notable countries have said “no”. So is such a waiver necessary or important to better tackle the pandemic?
