Disney’s live-action remake of “Mulan” is attracting backlash and calls for boycott after it emerged that the movie was filmed in the Xinjiang region, and had also thanked the authorities there in the credits. The reason for the criticism is because this region is where roughly one million Muslim Uighurs are being held in alleged detention camps. We look at the backlash and why things get complicated when Hollywood’s business interests get tied in with political ideology.
