The Curious Case of Banning Judy Blume

It remains one of the most challenged or banned children's books of the past five decades. Judy Blume's ‘Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret,’ tackles topics such as puberty and teen sexuality, and subsequently became a frequent target of challenges, and was even banned by several school libraries in the US. As the book celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, we explore why a coming-of-age book caused such a stir.
