Do You Need A DPO?

New data protection rules are coming, and businesses must act fast. Starting 1 June 2025, Malaysia’s Data Protection Officer (DPO) Appointment Guidelines and Data Breach Notification (DBN) Guidelines will take effect, requiring companies to strengthen their data governance, designate responsible officers, and comply with stricter breach reporting requirements.

But what do these regulations really mean for businesses, employees, and consumers? How can companies turn compliance from a regulatory burden into a competitive advantage?

We break it all down with Jillian Chia, Partner and Head of Privacy and Data Protection Practice at Skrine, as she shares insights on who needs to comply, the risks of non-compliance, and how businesses can prepare for these new obligations.
