The Dewan Rakyat yesterday passed a new Trademarks Bill 2019 with amendments that would allow individuals or companies to register trademarks such as smell, sound, shape and colour. But more importantly, this is one step closer that would enable Malaysia to fulfil its obligations in the Madrid Protocol system and be entitled to receive the concomitant benefits.
