According to Fortune Business Insights, the global facial recognition market is expected to be valued at almost USD$20 billion by 2027, exhibiting a growth of just under 15 percent during the forecast period. Since its introduction, the accuracy of facial recognition tech has improved dramatically when it comes to searching and matching photographs in a database. However, this evolution has raised concerns surrounding the privacy of citizens across southeast Asia. Alvin Toh believes it is critical that consumers understand how these technologies operate and how this will affect their data privacy.
