The Rise of Steganographic Malware

In the era of social media domination, images, videos and audio files are being shared and widely circulated online. This also includes the social media pages of celebrities that have million of followers, and receive thousands of likes and comments from fans daily. However, recently Amy Schumer, Justin Bieber, Rihanna, and Miley Cyrus are some of the celebrities that generate the most dangerous search results that could expose fans to viruses and malware according to a study by McAfee. Cybercriminals today have found a way to embed malicious malware into something as seemingly innocuous as a digital image, called Steganographic Malware. David Freer, McAfee’s Vice President Consumer Asia Pacific explains.
