Paving The Way for Financial Inclusion - Boost's Venture into Digital Banking

In April last year, Malaysia was catapulted into the global limelight as its Central Bank announced the country’s first ever digital banking licences for 5 successful applicants. The Boost-RHB Consortium led by Boost, a leading Southeast-Asian fintech arm of Axiata, emerged as one of the winners and now all eyes are on the soon-to-be digital bank pioneer.

To discuss Boost's foray into digital banking, we spoke with Sheyantha Abeykoon, the Group CEO of Boost. The interview deep dived into how Boost aims to further close the gap in financial inclusion by revolutionising the way financial services are provided and consumed. It also explored the business model that was built for the upcoming digital bank to operate and scale sustainably when serving the underserved market segment.

With its holistic fintech ecosystem that offers a full spectrum of digital financial services, spanning its all-in-one fintech app, merchant solutions, AI-based lending business, and cross-border payment platform, Boost has become the one to watch as Malaysia joins the digital banking frontier.
