He was reporting in Egypt for Al Jazeera back in 2013 when he was suddenly arrested, placed in solitary confinement, and subsequently charged with threatening national security. The accusation came without proof and after a sham trial, he was given a 7-year sentence. He spent 400 days in prison before being he was deported back to Australia.
