Hari Ini Dalam Sejarah Dunia: Happy Birthday Mario

Super Mario Bros is a video game unlike any other.  This wasn’t a simulation. It was a world to get lost in.

On Friday, September 13th, 1985, Super Mario Bros. arrived in arcades all across Japan. Nintendo had a hit on their hands and Shigero Miyamoto’s long gestating masterpiece would become the game that would define the company forever. Super Mario would become a global icon.

On this episode of Hari Ini Dalam Sejarah Dunia, we celebrate Mario's 30th birthday. Umapagan Ampikaipakan speaks to authors Jeff Ryan and Blake Harris about Super Mario Bros., about those console wars between Sega and Nintendo, and about how it had an indelible impact on our popular culture.
