Abolishing The Mandatory Death Penalty

On 3rd April 2023, Malaysia’s parliament passed sweeping legal reforms to remove the mandatory death penalty, trim the number of offences punishable by death and abolish natural-life prison sentences. First, we look at what these reforms mean, and how they can be implemented effectively. Then, we discuss how this will impact people who are currently on death row.
