Top 5 at 5: Big Names Ousted in PKR’s Divisional Elections

The PKR divisional elections saw familiar faces like Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli failing in their bids to secure positions in their respective divisions. We discuss the concerns of party factionalism, power struggles and complacency of incumbents with Shazwan Mustafa Kamal, Director of Vriens & Partners.

Other stories we covered:

• Medicine prices to be displayed in clinics: Starting next month, all private GP clinics, hospitals, and community pharmacies will be required to display the prices of medicines on their premises. This is to improve price transparency and remove medical inflation. However, it has caused concern among the medical community. To help us understand these concerns, we spoke to Professor Dato’ Dr Syed Mohamed Aljunid, President of the Malaysian Health Economic Association.
Risks of Pocket Rocketman going pro: Malaysia's track cycling star Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang is stepping outside the national team system and managing his own competition schedule, backed by a RM200,000 government grant. Haresh Deol, sports journalist and editor of Twentytwo- 13 helps us understand the shortcomings and rewards of stepping away from the national programme.
• Russia-Ukraine conflict hits new speedbump: Amidst growing pressure from the US to achieve a peace deal, Russia and Ukraine are still unable to find common ground. We speak to Dr Julia Roknifard, Senior Lecturer from the School of Law and Governance at Taylor’s University about the implications of US leaving negotiations and Ukraine's next steps forward.
ASEAN languages possibly introduced in schools: Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek proposed including ASEAN languages like Thai, Khmer and Vietnamese as elective languages in Malaysian schools. This is to prepare the younger generation for a cross-cultural world. We unpack the challenges and benefits of this.
