Top 5 at 5: Mark Carney Leads Liberals to Victory

Canada’s Liberal Party, led by Mark Carney, clinched a fourth mandate in federal elections despite lacking a majority and trailing in polls earlier this year. The campaign was marked by anti-Trump sentiment, a Conservative surge, and a dramatic collapse for the NDP, prompting Jagmeet Singh’s resignation. We get into it with Matthew Kerby, a senior political analyst at GeoMastery Advisory.

Other stories we covered:

• Healthcare workers get an allowance bump: Frontline healthcare workers in psychiatric, TB, and leprosy wards will now receive an extra RM100 monthly under a new Health Ministry policy. Professor Dr Sharifa Ezat Wan Puteh from UKM explains why these roles are considered high-risk and how this compares with past pandemic-era allowances.
Malaysia claims top spot for open data inventory rankings: Malaysia jumped from 67th to 1st globally for data transparency and coverage in the Open Data Inventory (ODIN) rankings. Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin, the country’s chief statistician, joins us to discuss how this milestone benefits governance, research, and public trust.
• Hooligan culture is ruining football: Following crowd trouble at the Malaysian Cup final, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh condemns football hooliganism and urges safer environments at matches. Sports psychologist Cheah Sin Eu helps us unpack the root causes behind such violent fan behaviour and what can be done to stop it.
PETA's "cage against the machine" social experiment: PETA’s latest protest in Pasar Seni offers RM10 per minute for participants willing to sit in a cage, spotlighting cruelty in factory farming and zoos. Volunteers say the cage replicates confinement animals endure, hoping to inspire empathy and spark lifestyle changes. We discuss.
