Top 5 at 5: The Heat is On in PKR Party Elections

Online nominations for PKR Central Leadership are taking place today, with party elections commencing on May 23. A new wave of support for vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar has changed the game for the deputy president post, which is held by Economic Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli. Ben Suffian, director of the Merdeka Centre to joins us to talk about this.

Other stories we covered:

• Inquests into inmate deaths: The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) has called into question possible medical negligence during the detention of an inmate in Bukit Jalil and another in Kedah, both now deceased. We discuss the discoveries of the inquest with Professor Noor Aziah Mohd Awal, Commissioner of SUHAKAM.
Celebrating International Macaque Week: Malaysia is home to three species of macaques, and despite being quite common they are categorised as endangered. Public actions such as feeding these primates invites them into human spaces, leading to the frequent culling of macaques. We talk about this with Dr Nadine Ruppert, the Vice-President of the Malaysian Primatological Society, and an associate professor at the School of Biological Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia.
Environmental legend turns 99: Sir David Attenborough recently celebrated his 99th birthday, marking a long life dedicated to environmental conservatism and broadcasting. His wonder and dedication to the natural world has not only made him a household name but has inspired millions across the globe. We look back on some of the most interesting points in his career.
• Cardinals watch Conclave for help: Voting is underway to elect the new pope, with the world watching closely for the moment black smoke turns to white—signaling a decision has been made. Reports suggest many cardinals have looked to Ralph Fiennes' film Conclave for insight into this secretive process. We discuss.
