Top 5 at 5: Are Thailand and Cambodia at War's Edge?

Thailand and Cambodia are locked in their deadliest border clashes in over a decade, with fighting erupting near disputed temples and triggering mass evacuations. The death toll is now up to 16, with both sides exchanging fire at the border. We speak to Thanachate Wisaijorn, a lecturer in the Faculty of Political Science at Ubon Ratchathani University about the situation on ground and possibility of escalations.

Other stories we covered:

• Israel’s starvation of Gaza: Death toll continues to rise as Israel’s blockade deepens Gaza’s hunger crisis, pushing entire communities toward starvation and collapse. Fila Magnus from the NGO, Viva Palestina Malaysia, speaks to us about the situation on ground.
• Human rights watchdog in limbo: Suhakam is operating with just three active commissioners after seven terms expired last month, raising concerns over stalled reforms and weakened public engagement. We speak to Muhammad Sha-ani Abdullah, former commissioner of Suhakam, about the impact of these vacancies.
• Theresa Lim passes on at 68: The early women’s rights activist with All Women’s Action Society (AWAM) and founding member of the Women’s Development Collective has passed away, after a recent diagnosis of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. We look back on her life and gender advocacy work, with Nalini Elumalai, a human rights activist and Senior Malaysia Program Officer at Article 19.
• Turun Anwar Rally tomorrow: Perikatan Deputy Chief Dato’ Seri Hamzah Zainuddin hailed that one million Malaysians would turn up for it, to portray the level of discontent among the public. We discuss turnout expectations, shifting demands, and political stakes as Perikatan Nasional leads a protest calling for the Prime Minister’s resignation.
