Top 5 at 5: Exploring the Controversy of Malaysia’s Mufti Bill

The Mufti Bill, which will be tabled for a second and third reading in this Parliamentary session, has been receiving a lot of pushback from various parties, with reasons given that it is unconstitutional, non-inclusive, and the fact that it would give powers to religious authorities in way of legal immunity. These arguments have been dismissed by Religious Affairs Minister Datuk Dr Na'im Mokhtar, but these concerns still persist. We speak to Rozana Isa, executive director of Sisters In Islam, to understand the various facets of this bill, and why there's been so much opposition to it.

Other stories we covered today:

· Flash Floods in Klang Valley: This morning, flash floods in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor caused major traffic disruptions, delayed Parliament, and affected several residential areas with landslides and evacuations in some places. Dr Khamarrul Azahari Razak, Director of the Disaster Preparedness and Prevention Center at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia shares his thoughts.

· Multi-Million Ringgit Bribery Scandal: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has raided three safehouses as part of a probe on MBI Selangor subsidary's sand mining concession. We speak to Pushpan Murugiah, CEO of C4, the Centre To Combat Corruption and Cronyism to get his thoughts.

· Budget 2025 Expectations For Haemophilics: Haemophilia is a lifelong condition where patients lack sufficient clotting factors in their blood, and medicine to help patients manage their condition are in short supply. So we hear from Edwin Goh, president of the Haemophilia Society of Malaysia on their wish for increased allocations to help support this group.
