Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tun Mat will be turning 66 in a couple of days, which means she will also be retiring. Despite the many calls from politicians and the public to extend her tenure, there has been silence from the government and the prime minister. We speak to Anand Raj, vice president of the Malaysian Bar Council about the situation and its implications for the country’s judicial independence.

• KL rally flare incident: The Himpunan Rakyat Benci Rasuah 2.0 erupted in chaos after a flare was lit and red smoke engulfed the area. In the chaos, a scuffle happened between a police officer and one of the protestors, which resulted in the latter being hauled away forcefully by his collar. We reached out to Tobey Qi-Sean, one of the organizers of the rally for a clearer idea of what happened. We also spoke to lawyer Goh Cia Yee on when it's justifiable for a police officer to use physical intervention when making arrests.

• Singaporeans ‘super commuting’ to save money: Channel News Asia recently spoke to a few of these ‘super commuters’ who live in more cost-effective countries and fly into Singapore when necessary. We talk about the benefits and downfalls of this kind of lifestyle.
