Top 5 at 5: Leadership Shake-Up in Penang DAP

Over the weekend, 1,500 Penang DAP delegates chose their state leadership. Despite Ramkarpal Singh being the top poll scorer with 1,247 votes, the chairman role is decided through negotiation, not automatically. Instead, Steven Sim, MP for Bukit Mertajam and Human Resources Minister, was elected as the new Penang DAP chief, with Ramkarpal Singh as his deputy. We discuss the implications of these decisions with Predeep Nambiar, FMT’s Northern Region Bureau Chief.

Other stories we cover in this episode:

World Rhino Day: We celebrate Indonesia's recent birth of a female Javan rhino calf, Iris, bringing hope for the endangered species. Datuk Dr John Payne, Executive Director of BORA, shares his thoughts.

Making Subang Jaya Walkable: MBSJ is planning wider paths and accessible infrastructure to improve connectivity and pedestrian safety across the constituency. We hear from Subang Jaya ADUN Michelle Ng and Pereka Bandar President Shuhana Shamsuddin.

Sri Lanka’s New Left-Wing President: Anura Kumara Dissanayake becomes the first Marxist party leader to win the Sri Lankan presidency. Janaka Biyan-wila and Atul Chandra discuss the challenges facing his administration.

Late Sleepers and Intelligence: A UK study suggests night owls may have better cognitive abilities than early risers. We explore this with Dr. Nur Hashima Abdul Rashid, who discusses sleep patterns and their impact on brain function.
