Top 5 at 5: Nurul Izzah Replaces Rafizi as PKR No. 2

Nurul Izzah Anwar has won the PKR deputy presidency, defeating incumbent Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli in the party elections. We talk to Syaza Shukri, an associate professor of political science at International Islamic University Malaysia about the win, and what this means for Rafizi's political future.

Other stories we covered:

• The climb to the ASEAN Summit: The first day of the ASEAN summit has commenced, with key regional leaders in attendance at the opening ceremony this morning. Our BFM news correspondents, Melissa Alvina and Dani Hazanif share what it's like on ground.

• Shaping a more inclusive ASEAN: More than 300 civil society organizations from across Southeast Asia gathered in Kuala Lumpur for ASEANPeoples@ASEAN2025, a summit focused on ensuring ASEAN prioritizes its people in long-term planning. We talk to Jerald Joseph, Convening Chair of ASEANPeoples for his thoughts.

• Save the children in high-rises: Following two fatal accidents involving children falling from high-rise buildings, the SUHAKAM Children’s Commissioner has called for a review of balcony height by-laws. We look at these laws and other safety precautions with Dato’ Dr Amar Singh, a child activist and consultant paediatrician, and Encik Azmi Abdul Aziz, chairman of the Persatuan Penduduk PPR Semarak.

• Celebrating Southeast Asian folktales: Penglipur Lara: Cerita Rakyat Asia Tenggara is an anthology of Southeast Asian folktales that launched at the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair. Compiled by the National Oral Literature Association, members traveled across the country to collect stories from traditional storytellers. We explore the collection and how these tales foster connections beyond borders.
