Top 5 at 5: Peace Between PETRONAS and Petros

After a persistent push-and-pull, a joint declaration signed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg will establish a collaborative framework between PETRONAS and Petros. We discuss this with Amalina Anuar, the Senior Director of FMT Business to gain better insights into what this deal really entails for both companies and their respective roles.

Other stories we covered:

• No further action for Teoh Beng Hock: The Attorney-General’s Chambers have decided to classify the death investigation as NFA, or “No Further Action.” This decision has not only sparked anger, but further questions from Teoh’s family and their legal team. We reached out to Kenneth Cheng, the Deputy President of the Teoh Beng Heck Association for Democratic Advancement to see what he had to say on the situation.

• The danger of aerial displays: Police have received 27 reports of property damage due to shockwaves close to the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre, where the Langkawi International Maritime Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) will be held. We talk to lawyer Barvina Punnusamy about what legal avenues residents can take, and Captain John Sham, a pilot in the LIMA showcase who explains why these shockwaves may be occurring.

• Singapore unveils new cabinet: Prime Minister Lawrence Wong revealed a cabinet lineup that has been widely regarded as “safe” this past Wednesday. Despite this reception, there are still some notable choices made. We discuss them with Chong Ja Ian, associate professor of political science at the National University of Singapore.

• 100 new flight routes for Visit Malaysia: The new approvals aim to make Malaysia a central hub for tourism in advance of the Visit Malaysia Campaign that will take place next year. This is among several tourism campaigns that have been planned with full government support to attract more high-profile travellers. We talk about the efforts being made and other aspects of easy travelling.
