Top 5 at 5: Sabah's Mining Corruption Saga Continues

Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin has announced his resignation as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's political secretary. This comes after businessperson Albert Tei accused him of involvement in a Sabah mining scandal. We break down Tei's newest allegations and unpack the efforts taken to investigate this scandal with Pushpan Murugiah, CEO of the Center for Combating Corruption and Cronyism.

• Journalist speaks out after mystery attack: The attack on veteran sports journalist Haresh Deol by two individuals in Bangsar has received widespread condemnation from journalists and authorities, who call for stronger protection for media practitioners. And many question the timings of this attack as Haresh has been an outspoken voice in the recent FIFA-FAM scandal. We hear about the incident from Haresh himself.

• Fault lines identified across Malaysia: The lines were identified in places like Pahang, Kedah and Perak by the Minerals and Geoscience Department following a few minor earthquakes in Johor this year. We discuss our own experience with earthquakes and assess our preparedness in these situations.

• Murray Hunter charged in Thailand for Malaysian civil case: Academic Murray Hunter was arrested back in September and charged for defamation over two blog posts that criticised the MCMC. Observers have shared concerns that this case sets a dangerous precedent for foreign laws being applied on behalf of other governments. We get an update from Murray himself on his situation and his concerns over the upcoming trial.

• Cinema piracy and bad behaviour: A 21-year-old Russian student pleaded guilty and was fined RM10,000 for recording over 30 minutes of the film 'Now You See Me: Now You Don't' a couple of weeks ago. We explore other local cases of piracy over the past year and discuss the decline of theatre-goer etiquette.
