Turning to the roots of soul to revive her career, Dusty Springfield recorded "Dusty in Memphis" in 1968. Even though the album performed poorly at its initial release, it produced the hit "Son of a Preacher Man" and later on, was recognised as one of the singer's best works. Acclaimed by critics, the album is considered one of the greatest records of all time.
