Malaysia Plans - Defining Moments

Today the government tables the 11th Malaysia Plan. This practice of outlining an economic and social agenda for the medium and long term began in the mid-60s. The preceding Federation of Malaya too had its economic blueprint with the first Malayan Plan launched for the year 1956-1960. Following the secession of Singapore in 1965, Malaysia, now consisting of the three territories of Malaya, Sabah and Sarawak had its First Malaysia Plan for the years 1966 to 1970. Between then and the last time a Malaysia Plan was tabled, which was on 10 June 2010, we have seen both continuities and discontinuities in social and economic policy. Today, we walk through the history of defining moments in the Malaysian Plans.

This is a report by Sharaad Kuttan.
