Germany's recently concluded federal election saw the centre-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU), led by Friedrich Merz, secured approximately 28.5% of the vote - allowing it to lead the formation of the next government. Notably, the far-right Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) achieved a historic surge.
