The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) released its 2022 Democracy Index recently, which showed that despite a broad easing of pandemic-era restrictions, the status of global democracy remains at similar levels to the prior year. What impacted trends in democracy over the past year, and is the world heading in the right direction? Syetarn Hansakul of EIU shares insights from the report.
