Jean-Marc Roda gives a scientific approach to looking at whether palm oil is causing alarming deforestation. It boils down to the question of economic development and how the world population will be fed. As oil palm produces so much more edible oil per hectare than say, soy, growing other crops to feed the world's oil consumption is worse for the environment.
