Can Universal Basic Income Be A Viable Safety Net?

The idea of a universal basic income or UBI has been gaining attention and sparking debate, as the planet grapples with rising inequality, job insecurity, and rapid automation. Professor Guy Standing, Professorial Research Associate at SOAS University of London and a founding member and honorary co-president of the Basic Income Earth Network, helps us unpack the economic, political, and ethical dimensions of this idea and if Malaysia is ready for it.

Professor Guy Standing will be a speaker at the International Social Wellbeing Conference 2025 organised by KWSP happening on the 17-18 of June.
