Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) play a crucial role in Malaysia's economy, contributing 38.4% to GDP and providing over four million jobs, but the lack of financing remains a major challenge to their growth. We speak with Datuk Fazlur Rahman Zainuddin, Principal Officer at Syarikat Jaminan Pembiayaan Perniagaan (SJPP), a Ministry of Finance-owned company that offers government-backed guarantee schemes to support SMEs as to their role and its efficacy.
