Malaysian Palm Oil No-Deforestation Pledge Under Scrutiny

Malaysia capped the land for palm oil plantations at 6.5 million hectares in 2019 and also has in place a no deforestation policy for new plantations. However, investigative reports have revealed that new deforestation permits for palm oil projects have been issued after 2020. What does this say about the implementation of sustainability rules in the palm oil industry? We discuss this with economist Khor Yu Leng.
