The Sarawak government and national oil and gas company Petronas have been caught in a push-and-pull negotiation over the state’s gas rights. Sarawak holds 60% of Malaysia’s gas reserves and is demanding local distribution rights from Petronas, which has had full control for five decades. So, what does this indicate about the power dynamics between the state and federal governments? For more perspective on this issue, we speak with political analyst Adib Zalkapli.
