Agency and Art

This week on A Bit of Culture, we look at various topics on the arts including agency for your ancestors in film, Eastern inspirations in Western art and vice versa, and sacrificing your personal life for art. Kam discusses the common trope in film to subvert historical accuracy in order to glorify the death of our ancestors. Pauline raises the topic of Western artists looking east for inspiration in art and whether ourselves in the East look further east (or west). Uma and the group debate on the argument in Michael Chabon’s book “Pops: Fatherhood In Pieces” that in order to be successful in creating art, an artist is required to sacrifice their personal lives.
