Iconic Vernacular Malay

It’s a thematic show on language in this edition of A Bit of Culture, with our culture vultures bringing good food-for-thought topics to the table. Ong Kar Jin gets the ball rolling by looking at vernacular languages and how they have now been embraced a lot more, despite prior resistance from the powers-that-be across the world. Kam then laments about the word “iconic” and how much he hates the word, claiming that the meaning has been diluted in its current usage. Pusaka's founder, Eddin Khoo then rounds up the conversation by speaking about the contestation of the Malay language by different stakeholders in the country.
