S2E38 - Swinging in the Right Direction

Rafael Nadal, Caroline Wozniacki, Roger Federer and Venus Williams are among the household names in tennis. But enthusiasts in Malaysia struggle to name a local tennis player. In fact, many are unaware of the tournaments held in the country due to the lack of publicity and enthusiasm seen among the stakeholders. The Malaysian tennis scene has been served with uncertainty and clash of egos in the past, resulting mediocre performances in publicising the sport and unearthing new talents through its development programmes -- this despite sending players for stints in Barcelona several years ago.

Local tennis fans may still remember the likes of former international V. Selvam, R. Ramachandran and Khoo Chin Bee but may find it difficult to name the current crop of players. Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia secretary Rahizam Rahim joins us as we discuss why there has been little buzz over the local tennis scene and the best way for the sport to hog the spotlight for the right reasons.
