S2E75: On The Right Track?

Lim Teong Kim is a man who would not mince his words - having donned the national colours before coaching Germany club Bayern Munich's junior team for 12 years - which includes mentoring the likes of Thomas Muller, David Alaba, Emre Can and more - he returned to Malaysia in 2013 to be the Project Director of the National Football Development Programme (NFDP). However his run was not the fairytale he imagined - his young footballers had chalked up successes in several tournaments but was still dragged into a public debate after his U16 squad last year failed to qualify for the U17 2019 World Cup in Peru.

Fast forward to today, 12 academy players – all aged 17 – were called up by national U19 coach Brad Maloney for centralised training. Lim insists this is a testament of NFDP and the academy’s capabilities, resulting in the national team enjoying a larger pool of talents. Joining us today is Teong Kim who will share his insights about his time at NFDP, the Mokhtar Dahari Academy and his foresight of Malaysian football.
