The South East Asia Press Alliance is bringing journalists from both the traditional media as well as digital rights activists in a major conference in Kuala Lumpur next week to consider issues of surveillance, hate speech and a range of concerns which have implications for both groups. The blurring of lines between the institutionalised media practices and citizen expressions on social media and other online platforms is one of the many challenges for advocates of media freedom.
